Most sought after skills . . .

Improving those skills improves prospects for greater success at home and work. everywhere, by everyone,
in every field . . .

ENTREPRENEURS . . . We're all in business in one way or another. Every morning we wake up to run the business of self. Our writing skills advertise our capability and determine our success. To get more of what you want, strengthen yours.

TEACHERS . . . In many school districts, applicants for teaching positions are now required to write an essay as part of the interview process. Writing skills are essential for getting a job in teaching because teachers with strong writing skills produce students with strong writing skills.

LEADERS . . . Well developed communication skills are the most easily identifiable characteristics separating those who are successful in any endeavor -- in politics, in business, in education, in religion, in community action, in whatever they do -- from those who are less successful. Writing is power.

SPOUSES . . . Personal relationships are strengthened by strong and effective communication. Strong and effective communication starts with strong and effective writing skills.

PARENTS . . . Strong parenting skills include the capacity to listen with understanding and communicate with compassion. You strengthen both when you develop your writing power.

STUDENTS . . . Your writing skills determine eighty-percent of your grades. Write well, and you will do well because strengthening your writing skills strengthens your thinking skills.

UP-AND-COMERS . . . Surveys of leaders in business and education cite well developed writing skills as the most sought after and most important skills for achieving success in the emerging 21st century workplace.

DOCTORS . . . Current medical education is almost exclusively empirical and analytical, what some call "left brain," but physicians caged in the left brain often have "a poor bedside manner" which diminishes their effectiveness in dealing with patients, nurses, and others. Writing develops whole brain powers.

LAWYERS . . . Practices of lawyers and writers are similar. Both identify an objective or problem or goal and gather all relevant data. Both analyze the data, prioritize it, synthesize it, and present their case to the ones who render judgment -- a judge or jury or the general public. Strong writing builds stronger cases.

ENGINEERS . . . Well-trained engineers know and apply the principles of physics and math in their work, but there are times in life when the whole is greater than the sum of its parts and when a straight line is not the shortest distance between two points. Writing strengthens thinking beyond formulas.

NURSES . . . Writing skills can unlock the creative powers care-givers need to combat stress and avoid burnout.

ACCOUNTANTS . . . Living in a world of ledgers and balance sheets can leave number crunchers blind to values that cannot be quantified. Writing strengthens the capacity to see and think beyond little boxes with numbers in them.

EVERYBODY . . . Strengthening our writing skills makes us better problem solvers and problem preventers with stronger critical thinking, creative thinking, and coping skills. Strengthening our writing skills gives us the power to think with analogies and metaphors and similes and frees us to think beyond what is to what can be. Strengthening our writing skills helps us see beyond our own small world, to see life through the eyes of others, and to become more compassionate.
